The founder, Jim Lyons was one of the first Cybercrime Detectives in Greater Manchester Police's Cybercrime unit, forming this department in 2014.
(He retired from the Police in March 2021 having completed his full Service).
He was one of the first Digital Media Investigators, (DMI's), having passed the National Policing Improvement Agency course in February 2015.
He was an Advanced Practitioner in Cybercrime, investigating ransomware attacks, Distributed Denial of Service Attacks,(DDoS), Hacking and other Computer Misuse Act Offences. "In the field" he was examining Internet Routers and producing evidence/reports on these devices.
He examined "live" devices at scenes, for example he was the first Officer to discover a computer running "Kodachi", (A Linux distribution) whilst still being connected and logged into a "Dark web" drug dealing site, using bitcoin as a payment method. This examination proved technically difficult due to the volatile data but a full RAM capture from this extremely volatile machine helped gather otherwise irretrievable data & evidence.
He was a Cryptocurrency Tactical Advisor for the Police.
He developed and practically implemented the Cryptocurrency Seizure Policy within his unit. Which resulted in the first Bitcoin,(BTC), Bitcoin Cash, (BCH) & Bitcoin Gold, (BCG) seizure of £60,000. He later seized over £1.5 million on cryptocurrencies, including ERC-20 tokens.
He was an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Information Security,(CIISec).
Previous to his 7 years in Cybercrime he had over 6 years experience within the Major Fraud Unit of GMP, investigating large scale, complex frauds.
